Business plan competition for students of the Latvian vocational education establishments has been finalized (19.-20.01.2012)

On January 19-20 (2012), annual Business plan competition for students of the Latvian vocational education establishments was held in Laidzes Vocational Upper-Secondary School, in Talsi County (western part of Latvia). The event was arranged by the National Centre for Education. The 1st place winners of this competition were Evita Naktiņa and Rūta Rutkupe, students of Jēkabpils Agrobusiness College for the work Saimniecīšu centrs, Ltd (in English – Centre of Little Housekeepers) (teacher Valda Kalniņa).

In total 26 vocational education students participated in this event; they were supported by 18 teachers. 22 works were submitted for the competition, of which 15 were presented to contest committee for evaluation.

The Business plan competition for Latvian vocational education provides opportunity for the students to assess their knowledge and skills both in preparing business plans and delivering public speech when presenting their work. The winners of first six places will participate in the national skills competition “Young Professional 2012” that is organized during the international exhibition “School 2012” (March 1-4) in Riga.

The competition was supported by the ESF project “The improvement of theoretical knowledge and practical competences for vocational subject teachers and for supervisors of practical training” (2010-2012) that is implemented by the National Centre for Education. The project is aimed at improving the theoretical knowledge and practical competences for initial vocational education teachers and for the supervisors of practical training by referring to updated vocational education content, innovations in economy, development of production technologies and by establishing sustainable and continuous cooperation between vocational schools, social partners and other stakeholders in all regions of Latvia.
